Dugong Dugon also known as Sea cow. Only one species of their family left. Another one - Steller’s Sea Cow, was huge, some could reach 9 meter (30 ft) length, was exterminated by human - was much bigger than 3 meter (10 ft) long Dugong. I haven’t seen Dugong in wildlife yet, and I don’t want to disturb them actually, for some reason I feel that they prefer to be alone at the bottom of the Ocean, chilly and slowly move and eat their fav sea grass. They are vegetarian 🤟🏻😻 well, normal Cow is vegetarian, so I’m not surprised that Sea Cow is prefer the similar food.
I’m surprised about another thing, maybe you all knew already but I discovered it just this year - Dugong’s front fin, is not a fins at all. if say more correctly - their front limbs bones is like a human hand. They Have fingers under the skin (Same as dolphins). See? Dugong- very evolutionary developed creatures. Humans of the ocean. I know I said that already about dolphins, but you know what, under the water life so good, that two different ‘human’ species can easily coexist. They don’t have to fight with each other for control of the territory. The ocean is big enough. Or maybe they just more human than us, than Homo Sapiens - the only extant human species. Yes, there were another ones, but our ancestors killed them all.
Anyway, funny thing that ancient sailors, who have to be at the sea a lot of time, sometimes with no water to drink, and under the sun hit - so some of them became a bit crazy, see hallucinations, heard voices etc - so, all that legends that we read at school about Mermaids and Sirens- is about Dugong. Yeah. Dugong is the last Mermaid. Respect is common sense ✊
